INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY PROVINCIAL CELEBRATIONOn May 18, 2012 the provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will celebrate International Museum Day as part of a national and international programme to enhance public awareness on the critical role that museums can play in preserving our inherent and diverse history while also developing society in general. Sipho Mutsi Heritage Preservation: 5 – 6 May 2012Freedom Day CelebrationsThe Free State Province will stage the 2012 provincial Freedom Day celebration, which is the 18th Freedom Day celebration to be staged, under the national theme “Working Together to Promote Unity in Diversity”. MINES DANCE COMPETITIONSFollowing the successful launch of the Mines Dance Competitions on the 2nd March 2012, the Department will roll out the competitions programme as follows:
Multipurpose Sport Court and Community Gym HandoverThe Department of Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation will officially hand over a Multi-purpose Sport Court to the community of Steynrus and a Community Gym to the community of Kutlwanong/Odendaalsrus. Read more
RE-OPENING OF THE CALEDON RIVER MUSEUMThe Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Caledon River Museum in Smithfield. The museum which started operating in November 1983, hosts exhibitions which cover the era of the Anglo-Boer War and the Basotho Wars in the area as well as historical artifacts from that era.
